Man robs cashier while girl, 6, watches
A man whom police called a “habitual offender” was arrested after he threatened a convenience store employee with a knife during a robbery last month while her 6-year-old daughter watched, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Surveillance cameras were rolling just before 10 a.m. Dec. 31 when a man went into the Kwik Stop at 813 NW 27th Ave., chose a snack and a drink and went up to the cashier to ask her where the bathroom was, BSO said.
When the cashier pointed toward the bathroom, the man went behind the counter and threatened her with a knife as her 6-year-old daughter watched, according to police.
A witness helped investigators identify the suspect as Calvin Emile Baker, 50, of Fort Lauderdale, whom BSO called a “violent, habitual career offender.” He has been arrested in the past on robbery, domestic violence and drug charges, police said.
Baker was charged Friday with armed robbery with a weapon and aggravated assault with a weapon in connection with the Dec. 31 crime. He is being held without bond on those charges as well as warrants for violating probation, police said.
